Raffaele Giaffreda at the 2016 IEEE 3rd World Forum on IoT
Raffaele Giaffreda, Chief IoT Scientist at OpenIoT group of CREATE-NET, will present the tutorial "Five Years of Research and Innovation Experience in IoT: Lessons Learnt DOs and DON'Ts" at the 2016 IEEE 3rd World Forum on Internet of Things .
This event is designed to examine key critical innovations across technologies which will alter the research and application space of the future. The Internet of Things envisions a highly networked future, where every object is integrated to interact with each other, allowing for communications between objects, as well as between humans and objects, which enables the control of intelligent systems in our daily lives.
Raffaele's tutorial will present lessons learnt in the past 5 years of R&D in the domain of Internet of Things andit will be structured in three main parts (research, development and business) reflecting and sharing the personaljourney of the presenter in this exciting field. More in detail, the first part will consist on current research challenges forintegrating the powerful monitoring capabilities of IoT with cognitive systems that can transform such data intoknowledge using machine learning. The second part will illustrate what it takes to transform research ideas anddemo prototypes into viable solutions that address real market needs, focusing on the creation of an IoT based eHealthplatform for the remote monitoring of elderly and cognitively impaired people. The third part will focus on the businesspart of IoT. It will share the experience gathered from initiating technology transfer activities targeted at creating aviable go-to-market strategy for a particular asset that, within the scenes set by the previous two tutorial parts, aims ataddressing various IoT problems such as interoperability, scalability and privacy within a viable business context.
