On January 16th 2015, CREATE-NET organized, together with the research foundation I2CAT, the first "3D MUSE" test: a 3D remote museum visit service.

The MuSe, the Natural Science Museum located in Trento, and Fabra i Coats located in Barcelona have been connected through the Internet via a bidirectional 3D audio and video stream that will grant future "visitors" with access to real time exhibits available in both museums on 3D TV screens, while enabling the interacition with operators and guides available from remote.
Involved directors and staff from both sides really appreciated this early test and decided to define more actions for 3D MUSE soon: the identification of interested museums to involve and the definition of concrete scenarios - with specific technical setups - to be developed.

Many European museums are investing relevant resources to attract visitors and to offer new ways to access cultural and artistic content in their premises. This is one of the reasons why SPECIFI is working with relevant stakeholders for innovative Future Internet multimedia services in the creative industries domain.
Recent technologies for 3D high definition real time content streaming across remote sites may enable new ways for visiting museums from remote, thus offering a more immersive and realistic experience, allowing visitors to access remote content and interact with museum guides.
